"So, perhaps our task in this shaky, fast-changing, bewildering world
in which we live is to make music, at first with all that we have,
and then when that is no longer possible, to
make music with what we have left,"
Jack Riemer of the Houston Chronicle.

Mitakuye Oyasin
Many of Bunny's songs highlight this theme  (Meetahck-oooyeah  Oye-yah-see)

These Lakota (Sioux ) words I use respectfully, as a wish, and as a prayer.
My understanding of the translation in simple words to English is:
"we are all related  -  all my relations"
Yet these words mean so much more!
The meanings of these words are in my songs, and hopefully in my life, yet here in written words I will attempt to describe my feelings about this further.

I feel it is important to awaken to this indigenous and holistic perspective in these critical times,
and to make a conscious, and individual commitment to the truth,
understanding, and daily practice of these words for we are all connected in the web of life.

Living in LOVE instead of fear, in wisdom and harmony instead of discord,
in our wise cultivation of peace within ourselves, in relationships with each other, the land, all living and growing things that fly, that crawl, that swim, that hop, that walk, all natural resources, the earth, rocks, air and sky, in thoughtful  and respectful life activities which represent the highest and wisest use of our life force (energies).

Since we ARE ALL in this - on this planet - in this LIFE -  together

NOW is the TIME
for us to think, speak, sing and share these words,  that show a workable way of living in peace

NOW is the TIME
to consciously show  friendship, relationship, forgiveness, camaraderie, acceptance
(a kind, loving, accepting and nurturing relationship, similar to what we would expect from a beloved grandmother toward her grandchild.)

NOW is the TIME

To LIVE the prayer of Mitakuye Oyasin - that all the parts may honor the whole, and our every thought and action may benefit, nurture and honor life instead of pollute, consume and destroy it.
Listen to a sample of: Give Yourself to Love
B
y the way we individually choose to use our energies toward right action
(this gift of manifesting our life energies may be called "using our Sacred" or how we "walk in a Sacred manner")

can be a great benefit to the whole
and finally knowing that our positive thoughts and good actions DO make a profound difference, we are blessed with profound inner peace and joy.

The natural "side effects" of this practice is - FREEDOM for all - as we each
brightly and happily shine in our individual talents, abilities, and contributions -

a practical and rewarding way of life!

And so in saying Mitakuye Oyasin
at the end of my correspondence or at the end of a song
I hope to show appreciation for and recognition of the diversity of all,

and encourage awareness of the response-ability

that comes with the BEST use of our personal freedoms
in goodness - in beauty.

Through the process of sharing my gifts of music I find myself  constantly being
touched in that  place of awareness

which always works as a reminder that  the universe is friendly, and trustworthy,

and goodness, beauty ways, peaceful ways, ways of love, and life always win - eventually.

It is my prayer to share that awareness,

so each may

GROW to KNOW and SHOW
see, feel and be,

the honorable and authentic human-beings we are capable of BE-ing,
while finding the fulfillment and peace in practice that this creates
in unity with ALL of  the whole of creation,  living in harmony, in accord with these natural and most efficient principles, wisely, underlying and built, resonating into everything!

The truth and power of love is everywhere!

By sending my voice in song it is my hope to magnify that truth,
that vision, and encourage you to
spread the wings of your heart and
find and follow your purpose,

your highest and most noble dream, your most lofty goal,
to the

BEST
BENEFIT
of
YOURSELF
and
the
WHOLE

(all our relations in all the four directions)  for

Every dream comes with wings!

I thank you for your interest in the music that I send from the HEART
of the sacred Black Hills, because we are, after all , related...

Bunny Sings Wolf

A note about  Native American flutes, music, and story telling:   Just as a "French horn" is a particular type of musical instrument, "Native American flute" refers to a particular type of musical instrument and "Native American Storytelling" does not imply that it was presented by an enrolled member of a Federally-recognized tribal member.  A reviewer with the Rapid City Journal recently dubbed Bunny's music as "Lakota-inflective Folk".  This aptly describes the type and subject matter of  the original music  she shares, with the intent to build bridges among races of all people, Red, Yellow,  White and Black, and educate, show honor and respect for human BE-ings, Lakota and ALL other earth-nurturing, Native American and indigenous life-ways, perspectives and cultures.

"I"m white, but I can't prove it."

Although Bunny has a rich mix of first nations ancestry, has learned from, shared and associated with many well respected "Federally-recognized"  Native American Indian tribes, tribal elders, chiefs, and medicine people, she has well researched the stories and teachings she shares with great conviction while she plays Native American flutes in music that is enjoyed and endorsed by many prominent card carrying Native Americans,  Bunny Sings Wolf's music does NOT claim to be "Native American made"  as is now specified by the U.S. Government.   IF it is your desire to listen only to music made by an enrolled member of a "federally-recognized"  "Native American" musicians, you may find them through a web search.

Most asked question:    "How can I get a copy of Bunny's latest new songs that I  heard at her concerts?"

Most of Bunny's ORIGINAL SONGS (upward of 320 at last count) have "arrived" usually at 3:00 a.m., in the form of dreams  since Bunny has been living at home in the Black Hills.  Waking her from deep sleep - playing in her head - complete with words and music, she records them, to learn and share later. In honoring this unique music gift, Bunny feels a solemn responsibility to the Creator to use her voice and carry these songs to as many people as possible.  Lyrics of some of these songs, yet unreleased on CD, may be found on Unreleased Lyrics page. We hope you will share Bunny's web site of "heart healing" music with your friends and include Bunny's CD's in your library of songs that comfort and nurture your animal spirit.

How can music be "heart healing"? Listen to a sample of: Treaty

Listening from the heart. The drum (the heartbeat of mother earth and all it's breathing creatures), the human voice (which can mimic wild animal sounds as well as express with clarity the deepest yearnings of the human soul), the hand carved wooden flute (with a tone and a softness, yes, a "personality" all it's own)... these along with heart healing lyrics inspired from the energy and natural beauty of the ancient Black Hills, long thought by native peoples as the heart of the world (seen from a satellite the Black Hills actually resemble a beating heart) - all are artfully employed in the simple and soulful music of Bunny Sings Wolf.

Her CD "Sacred Ground" draws the modern listener into these natural sounds gradually, as the multi-layered meanings in the lyrics begin to effect ancestral remembrances. While the ancient drum beats gently slow the heart rate, the nature inspired subject matter takes you on a refreshing walk through majestic forests and prairie grasslands where once large Buffalo and Elk grazed peacefully.

Since it is the rocks and trees that inspire this peaceful music, Paha-Sapa, the Lakota word for "Black Hills" is given a "rock concert" "poluza" ending for a song that ends with the ancient sounds of Lakota "vocables" and rattles taking one from the present ever deeper into the prayerful and primal.

In this music it is hoped that the thoughtful listener can find their own "Sacred Ground" - a deeper self-knowing - the thing that gives each of us a solid foundation and meaning in life.

This is how "heart healing music" works.

"Buffalo Tales" takes one a few steps farther back. From the modern misconception that all things must be "controlled" by technology - comes the true story of a tourist with a camera confronted by a large wild buffalo, reminding us that we are fragile human beings after-all, and true success and survival depends on good relationships.

All of the songs on this, Bunny's second album, are tuned to the hand carved flute, no digital sounds are used - so the notes are "different" from all those modern radio songs tuned to the standard electronic tuning fork.

To the discerning thoughtful listener, this is true Earth music that rides on energies that may naturally heal a heart, a nation, a world. Listening From the HEART - how natural sounds can HEAL...

Interesting that the period of time 1994-2004 (the time the United Nations declared as the "International Decade of the World's Indigenous Peoples") has contained some of the greatest changes in world history, creating "dis-ease" in the hearts of mankind by shaking the world's "ritual" belief systems - religious, political, and economic - down to the core.

It's been said that modern society's loss of ritual can cause psychic fragmentation - literally, the state of being disconnected from our deeper selves. The result is a sort of soul starvation - a deep, non-specific hunger that we've tried desperately (and unsuccessfully) to feed with food, alcohol, sex, shopping, constant "noise", gambling, drugs, work. "When a man's knowledge is not in order, the more he has the greater will be his confusion" (a quote from Sugar Blues). Many healers believe that this psychic fragmentation is at the root of stress, and it's manifestation in many physically related "dis-eases."  Listen to a sample of: White Buffalo PEACE Song

How do we tap back into the subconscious healing that is naturally built into our psyche? Indigenous cultures with their natural sense of Earth wisdom and awareness of the sacred in all things, seem always to have understood that human beings are coded for ritual - a childlike simplicity in which the unconscious mind speaks to the conscious mind.   This is place where song comes from.  In our fast paced lives most of us don't even know how to tune back to the health of the unconscious, uncluttered mind, let alone value the simple sacredness of a song.

Perhaps listening to earthy, simple and gentle music that yet honors and employs natural tones from the indigenous - can reawaken our unconscious mind, and like dreams - put our knowledge back in order.  Certainly here we invite you to listen from the heart, and explore for yourself the healing sounds of Bunny Sings Wolf.
